The Burning Crusade Classic, you can now opt-in to Blizzard has closed beta for the throwback expansion

Many players have wondered how quickly Blizzard would make a WoW Classic Burning Crusade beta available after the developer said it would come “soon” during BlizzConline,” and the query has finally been answered.The time is now. Blizzard’s game launching client, Battle.net, has started to give select players the option to download the “Burning Crusade Classic Beta.”

Since Burning Crusade Classic is an extension of the existing World of Warcraft Classic product, there isn’t a separate landing page for it. Navigate to the Classic product page and near the top of the page there’s a link labeled “Opt in to the Burning Crusade Classic Beta” which sends you down the page to the Opt In button — you can also scroll down and search for it.

Once selected, the beta should appear alongside your other WoW installs in the Battle.net launcher. Beta testers can choose to create a new character, or carry over any of their existing WoW Classic characters.

Click the Opt In button — login to your Battle.net account if necessary — and you’ll get a message saying

    Success!
    Your account has been added to the Beta Opt-In list. Good luck!

If you’ve already signed up, the message will instead state

    Already Opted In
    Your opt-in has already been recorded. We’ll let you know!

WoW Classic players will have a choice as to whether they advance to Burning Crusade. You'll be able to keep your characters in the vanilla Classic version of the game, or move to them the Burning Crusade era.World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Classic is included with any WoW subscription, so if you're playing the main game or Classic already, you'll get access to this content for free.

WoW Classic's foray into The Burning Crusade was revealed at BlizzCon earlier this year, though we still don't know when The Dark Portal will reopen for Blizzard's nostalgic client. Technically, it'll be a whole new branch of WoW Classic—servers for just the vanilla experience will remain, alongside those that push forwards into WoW's first expansion.
