Rocket League’s Crate system is being replaced by Blueprints

Rocket League’s Crate system is being removed in favor of a new one: Blueprints. Developer Psyonix announced today that the change is coming in December. Psyonix announced in August it was removing Crates from Rocket League, following Epic Games’ lead with its removal of loot boxes from Fortnite’s Save the World. In Rocket League, players will have the chance to get Blueprints after playing matches. These items will show what can be made, and then player will choose if they want to create it. Players will have to pay to create the item using Credits instead of purchasing a key to unlock a Crate. Credits are the “new premium currency” coming to Rocket League with the December update. They can be used to create Blueprint items, buy stuff from the new Item Shop, and upgrade to Rocket Pass Premium.

Both blueprints and the item shop will arrive in December, along with credits, which are replacing keys as the game's premium currency. You'll also be able to use credits to buy Rocket Pass Premium too, but they won't be valid for the esports shop -- only esports tokens will be valid there. Psyonix will automatically convert keys into credits and remaining crates into blueprints once the overhauled system goes live. Until then, one final vindicator crate will be available from Thursday, which includes a battle-car and a goal explosion. And if you want to Buy Rocket League Credits, visit 5mmo.com, a professional online in-game currency store.

Also coming in December is a new Item Shop, where credits can be spent directly on a rotating selection of cars and car accessories, including "new items,Rocket League’s Crate system is being replaced by Blueprints legacy Crate content you might have missed out on, and the long-awaited debuts of items like the Titanium White Dominus."

Items purchased in the Item Shop will not be tradeable. Psyonix will not say whether blueprints and credits will be tradeable at this time, which is what will determine whether the current marketplace can continue to exist. If I had to guess, I'd assume that blueprints will be tradeable, but credits will not. Again, there's no confirmation on that at this time.

Once the new Blueprint system does go live, your Keys will automatically be converted into Credits the first time you log into Rocket League. Each remaining Crate you have will be converted into a Blueprint of the same series.
