Kobe Bryant revealed as NBA 2K21 cover star for Mamba Forever edition

On June 25th, NBA 2K officially announced that three cover players of "NBA 2K21" will be announced later. Once the news was released, some netizens asked whether Kobe would become a cover player. Recently, "NBA 2K21" officially announced that NBA legend Kobe Bryant will become the third cover player of "NBA 2K21’s Mamba Forever edition"!

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar, who died in a tragic helicopter crash along with his daughter, Gianna, and seven others in January, is even getting his very own edition of the game. He’ll be gracing the cover of the Mamba Forever edition, which is replacing the Legend edition. Bryant appeared on the cover of the Legend edition for NBA 2K17.
 
The new version, called the "Mamba Forever Edition" will be a special copy available for both current and next-generation consoles for $100. Bryant will be featured on the covers of both games, with him in his No. 8 jersey for current generation consoles and next-generation console editions will feature Bryant in his No. 24 jersey.
 
Bryant is one of three cover athletes for 2K21, joining Damian Lillard (current gen) and Zion Williamson (next gen), who appear on their respective standard editions. Alfie Brody, vice president of global marketing at NBA 2K, said of the three covers: "Each of our cover athletes represent different eras of the game of basketball—Damian Lillard dominates the court today, Zion Williamson is a standard-bearer for the next generation of NBA superstar and what more could be said about Kobe? Three athletes representing the current, future and storied history of the game. Today’s exciting announcement is just the first of many for NBA 2K21; it’s going to be a huge year for basketball fans and NBA 2K gamers."
 
"NBA 2K21" will launch on the PS4/Xbox One/NS/PC platform on September 5th, and will also launch on the PS5/Xbox Series X in the future.
