Blizzard is continuing to update older World of Warcraft content to be less problematic, this time targeting the phrase "greenskins" as well as a number of dialogue changes that include the removal of additional developer references and toned down sexual remarks.

The term "greenskin" has largely been used in WoW by Alliance and human NPCs to refer to orcs, with the intention of it being a slur. The obvious conclusion here is that the phrase has been removed in order to avoid comparisons to real-life hate speech; it's not uncommon for video games to be this on the nose about real-world issues with their racial allegories. Of course, if it's not serving a valuable purpose it begs the question as to why it exists in-game at all.

Given that this argument has been made several times in the past (including by ComicBook.com's Christian Hoffer), it's possible the changes were made in an effort to make the game more welcoming. However, as the website Wowhead points out, it's also possible this was an attempt by World of Warcraft to distance itself from similar terms in Warhammer. While several "greenskin" references have been dropped or altered, similar terms such as "green hide" remain in the game. It's worth noting that a character by the name of "Captain Greenskin" has not had their name changed.

Some of the sexually suggestive jokes have also disappeared from the game. For example, gardener Fran now says to water her melons down the path. Earlier, she said that you need to water her huge melons. If in Russian both phrases are quite common, then in English big breasts are often called Huge Melons, and the phrase Go water my Huge Melons itself can have a sexual connotation.

A somewhat iconic NPC, Finkle Einhorn, has also undergone a major change. The NPC's original name was an amalgam of the characters Ray Finkle and Lois Einhorn from the film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, a film which has been criticized for being transphobic. The NPC's new name is Pip Quickwit, and items using the character's name have also been changed. The change is present in a Hearthstone card involving the character as well. In addition to the changes above, numerous instances of dialogue involving lack of consent or sexual innuendo have been updated.

The changes come in the wake of the various lawsuits and investigations surrounding Activision Blizzard regarding sexual harrassment and discrimination against female employees. Many prominent senior Blizzard employees have left the company as a result of the lawsuits, such as former Blizzard president J. Allen Brack.
